真道二號令學生們蒙福
真道二號:千里達托貝哥,西班牙港
真道二號在七月十四日進行最後的開放日,人群更爭相上船,搶著以低價購買
好書。由於學校放暑假,許多家庭都上船買書,因為真道二號的書展,是購買
優質教科書的最佳場地。修讀數學及物理的大學生Renee Lopez 找到不少好書,
她說:「我甚麼書都愛看,我曾經在書室中工作,但真道二號的書真是更加便
宜。」Renee 找到一些她喜歡的書目,如歷史、書法和百科全書。書展部的船
員都辛勤地把書本補放上書架,並幫助人客購買書籍,盼望能好好完成在真道
二號退休前的最後開放日。

在望道號上的工作隊伍在船上每個角落中埋頭苦幹,人人由頭到腳都滿佈塵垢!
在船隻停止開放期間,連多船員都停了手頭原來工作,來加入體力勞動行列。
其中最大型的項目是在船中央預備七道長梯,每條梯相隔五個甲板。每層梯級
都要釘好,打磨,磨沙直至磨掉所有鐵.,掃上底色及漆油,再舖上地氈。來
自蘇格蘭的Pauline Scott (Scotland) 是望道號總幹事Mike Hey 的私人助理,也
十分樂意走出辦公室,披上工作服加入行列,但她也老實說:「這種工作好累
人!不過會令你份外欣賞項目隊伍每天所做的工作!」

大衛 湯馬士(英國)突然於五月十九日星期一於「真道二號」上心臟病發過世。他是這最後一次加勒比亞之行值勤的首席輪機長。
他的太太JOY同時也在船上陪著他,他的家人們也陸續的飛到船的所在地陪伴她度過。
大衛,我們所有專業船職員中服務最久的一位,於一九六九年就加入福音船的事工,那時候,這個機構甚至連一艘船都看不見。
過去的幾十年來,他服務於「真道號」、「忠僕號」以及「真道二號」上,期間也在本機構的英國辦公室擔任主任的工作。最近幾年他花了比較多的時間在船的德國總部,擔任技術總監。
他對於福音船的事工有著無比的熱情,更重要的,他是個投入一切的忠實夥伴。他以身作則,教導許許多多在引擎室技術性工作上缺少實際經驗的年輕人,他的風範永存。
我們的禱告與他的夫人JOY和家族、真道二號的所有船職員在一起。那些曾經與他共事過的人,都深深的被他對神的愛和服事的忠誠所影響著。
Taking time for the children

As Logos II departed from Montego Bay, Director Ebbo Buurma (Netherlands) reflected on the busy port
and the commitment of the crew and staff in serving the community there.
"In the midst of the great number of book fair visitors, every weekday we had large numbers of school children,
some days up to 1,000!" he said.
The school groups enjoyed a Gospel programme in the main meeting room before visiting the book fair.
Among those who came on board were students from a school for deaf children,
and a group of 30 street children from what is perhaps the most depressed area in Montego Bay,
who were also given a meal. "It was great to see our busy staff taking time to minister to the kids!"
enthused Ebbo.

Busy days on board

Step onboard Logos II and you will be faced with crowds of people. This is nothing new of course,
but when more than 3000 people have come to the ship before it has even been officially opened then it’s special.
With larger crowds expected as word spreads, crew have been learning crowd management techniques
and the best ways to interact with people waiting to come on board. Other staff members have had
additional training in book fair systems to be able to help out when needed.
All this is in preparation for the public address system announcement:
“Attention ships company, if you are free, the book fair needs your help.”
Even the captain pitches in to help cope with the numbers visiting the ship in Montego Bay.
