Around the world in one night

A group of locals eagerly huddled their heads together to listen to Katherine McDougall (Australia) explain about an odd looking creature known as the kangaroo - an animal they had never seen or heard of. "I showed them how a kangaroo jumps and described a kangaroo pouch!" said Katherine. Extra chairs and tables had to be pulled out as a large number of visitors gathered in the main lounge to make imaginary visits to foreign destinations. Smiles and laughter quickly spread across the room as participants engaged in cultural exchange through a variety of activities. After returning from a 'visit' to Germany, Kaohsiung resident Fu-Mei Chen exclaimed, "The programme was interesting and well organised. Doulos crewmembers are friendly and welcoming!"

Eyes widened as Mary Lou Kaiser (South Africa) said that she had tried giraffe, zebra, crocodile and different types of antelope meat while growing up in South Africa. Addressing an audience of over 1500 teenagers and aiming to provide a wider perspective on different cultures while encouraging students to realise how special and unique they are, Doulos crewmembers gave an hour long presentation and performance at Fong Shan High School. Utilising mimes, dramas, videos and vivid pictures, Mary Lou noted, “The youth seem stimulated and very responsive. Because we’re using a lot of visual aids, it keeps them involved!” There was no doubt that the vibrant energy that filled the auditorium motivated both students and visitors from Doulos alike.
